Ronny Vlassaks –

I did it.

Coaching course level 1 in Moscow

The moment I was asked by Dina Kostrykin to organise an ESF level 1 course, I was looking forward to visit Moscow again, also to see some of my Russian friends.
But from the moment that we started to organise there were some difficulties with the Russian Squash Federation. After solving a few misunderstandings, the course could finally get organized. I would deliver this course with my good friend and 15 times National number 1 player Alexey Severinov. He got his level 3 certificate and also can get started as a National tutor for Russia.

After checking out the facilities in the venue on my arrival day, we could the first day start with all 26 coaches. Some of the coaches were not able to understand all the English, but also for this problem Dina found a solution. She arranged a translater for all 3 days, namely her son Valera. He did a fantsatic job. Also the great work that Alexey did put in, made the course a fantastic event.

Personally I think that from the first moment on, there was a great interaction between the coaches and the tutors. Also the center Multisports, was a nice location to hold this kind of events. The squash experience in the group was different. From my point of view there were two levels, so I did split the group in 2 for some things we did in the course. The coaches were doing very well in the classroom, paying attention and working together with the tutors to make it high quality. The atmosphere in the group was outstanding, there was a lot of fun between the serious parts of the course. After a while they even started to understand the Belgian humour. It was also nice to see that there were coaches from different regions from Russia. Ykaterinaburg, Yaroslawl, Kazachstan, Moldava,...

On the last day, the day of the final assessment, everyone was very nervous to get through the tests. On the end 18 coaches passed their assessment.

For me as a tutor it was great fun and an honour to work for these people. I especially want to thank Dina and Sergey Kostrykin, who made out of my stay a fantastic experience.
Also I want to thank Valera Kostrykin, who did all the translation work and who knows now more about squash than some coaches in squash. :)
I also want to express my thanks to Stanislav Supronov, who gave some extra help in the beginning when there were some difficulties to get the course organized and also for his hospitality when I was in Moscow.
And last but not least, I want to express a special thanks to my good friend and assistant tutor Alexey Severinov, who worked very hard to make this course a succes from high quality.

For me personally it was a very nice period that I did spend in Moscow, it was enourmos hard work, three very long days, but thanks to all the people I mentioned before, it became a great success. I hope that all these coaches will get started to coach and to make all Russians crazy about the squash game. I strongly believe, as I always said, that the Russian athlete is the perfect one to compete in a sport like squash. So I hope the sport will get developed very fast in a country with an enormous amount of possibilities. It would be great if ESF and myself as a tutor, did succeed to be a part of this positive progression in the development of Russian squash.

Good luck to Russian squash and I will be ready to give more help in the future to make some things happen.
And Dina, you did a fantastic job!

With kindest regards
Ronny Vlassaks
Tutor European Squash Federation
